Dreams Are
Fabricated
- a film by Meg Case and Brad Porter -
Shredding the magic of the mechanism by which the dominant myth defends itself through the fabrication of dreams while simultaneously reproducing itself, duplicating, spreading, feeding, and manifesting into a structured ideology; this is a stretching of these ingredients across a digital canvas.

About the film:
How does the dominant myth, the grand narrative, within a culture reproduce itself, grow, and manifest into a structured (and yet malleable) ideology?
As filmmakers and bi-products of the dominant myth(s) within our culture(s);
witnessing late-capitalism’s deafening shriek to declare its own importance while simultaneously plunging humanity further into apocalypse,
religious ideologies severing connections,
and “money over everything”;
the magic of the myth is both terrifying and wonderful.
The dominant myth isn’t a homogeneous structure, but rather a conglomerate of narratives and descriptions of reality, and it is therefore constantly micro-shifting, vibrating, reforming, and vulnerable to deconstruction, a process in which the myth is inverted, examined, and reconstituted into a new vision.
The dominant myths of our moment are beginning to crumble. If indeed these myths have a will, and if that will is to survive (which seems apparent in the face of our current relationship to the dominant myths), then these aging narratives will struggle (with force) to reproduce and mutate.
How does the dominant myth defend itself?
How does personal desire serve to protect the dominant myth from deconstruction?
Does it shape our personal desires, utilizing what appears like magic to create dreams, create desires which serve its own interest?
Does ideology have a will,
an invisible hand,
that will-fully
(forcefully),
methodically shapes our personal desires in an effort to protect itself from deconstruction,
obstructing our vision, while simultaneously reproducing itself and strengthening its position?
What does that methodology look like?
Does ideology have intent?
What are its motivations?
What is the mechanism in which this virus reproduces itself
both internally within a body-subject but also
throughout a wider body-culture?
The sheer power of our ability to create and reproduce narrative, myth, ideology, is terrifying and wonderful.
We stand teary-eyed at the terror of the dominant myth’s ability to produce horrors and pain at such magnitude, with such force and capriciousness.
And we marvel at the wonder of the opportunity created in the vulnerability of the dominant myth to deconstruction,
an opportunity for us to break these cycles of violence through the refabrication of new dreams,
dreams of our own creation.
